MARRIAGE IS A CALL! (A word for both singles & married)
Being
alone is not good according to Genesis 2:18 The LORD God said, "It is
not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for
him". So, God instituted marriage as a way of making what was not good
to become good. Hence, marriage is a call to make good what was formally
not good -good!
Marriage is a call for the people who have
agreed by covenant to become one in service of God our maker. It's also a
call to service each each other -husband serves his wife and wife
serves her husband, and together they fulfill the purpose and will of
God for their life.
Marriage is a call for collaboration, it's a
call to join forces to fight a common enemy and have common victory -
Deuteronomy 32:30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten
thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had
shut them up? Joshua 23:10 One man of you puts to flight a thousand,
since
it is the LORD your God who fights for you, just as he promised you.
See also Matthew 18:19. The above Scripture implies that God + husband +
wife = absolute victory. One will chase a thousand and two will defeat
ten thousand, this is especially true to all married couples who have
God as their rock!
Marriage is a call from selfishness to
oneness. It's a call to complete an incomplete person with another
incomplete person to make a complete one couple. It's a way of
perfecting an imperfect man/woman. You will never get married if you
continue to look for a perfect spouse.
True confession: I forget so easily, but God gave me a wife who's brain retains whatever she hears!
Marriage
is a call for two different individual from different background and
upbringing to become one. It's for those who will say it's no longer
'I', or how it's done in my father's house, but how God says to do -in
agreement with your spouse. marriage is for those who are willing to
learn together, share profit and lose.
During wedding, when
couples say "Yes, I do", your allegiance is not first to your spouse but
to God the proprietor of marriage. You're saying, "yes Lord" I agree to
serve him or her as onto you -Lord! It's unfortunate that what is
mostly common in marriage today is couples who are running their
individual race, I must say that this is contrary to God's plan for
marriage.
The Scripture says; "and the two will become one flesh.' So
they
are no longer two, but one flesh". Mark 10:8. Here, becoming one is
usually not as easy as couples expects it to be. The mistake we usually
make is that we fail to realize that "becoming one" requires "working
out".
Join me next time as we look into what it takes to work out -becoming one!
It's
my prayer that our marriages will not only work out and be sweet, but
that it also fulfill God's purpose in Jesus name. Amen!
